AP: Appeal Process After an Approved Withdrawal

If you have had an approved withdrawal from your practicum and wish to apply for reinstatement, you may submit an email request within 12 months to teachersuccess@wgu.edu. Include the following information:

  1. Enter “Appeal for Reinstatement to Repeat the Practicum <<Your Name>>” in the e-mail subject line.
  2. Enter your name, student ID number, state of residence, program of study, and mentor name in the first line of e-mail.
  3. Provide a general explanation of your reason for withdrawal, along with documentation supporting your explanation. If you are requesting appeal for reinstatement for a previously approved disability or medical condition, you will need to submit supporting documentation to WGU’s ADA Student Accessibility Services office at adasupport@wgu.edu to maintain confidentiality of your records. The Teacher & Principal Success team will not be able to discuss any details regarding a disability or health related issue to support your appeal for reinstatement. See Student Handbook article, Policies and Procedures for Students with Disabilities to understand your rights and responsibilities. The Student Accessibility Services office will review the documentation to determine whether the information adequately supports your request for an appeal for reinstatement to a future cohort. Contact WGU’s Student Accessibility Services office for more information regarding your documentation at 877-435-7948, ext. 5922.

If additional information is required, the Teacher & Principal Success team will contact you accordingly.

The Teacher & Principal Success team will review your appeal and respond to you within 15 business days after all information is received. If your appeal is approved, you must meet all application and academic requirements through Field Placement. If your appeal is denied and you wish to appeal the denial, you may submit a written appeal to the Dean of the Teachers College at teachersuccess@wgu.edu.

Note:  Students may repeat the practicum only one time after a previous withdrawal. If the second practicum is failed or withdrawn, you will be counseled out of your program. If you are approved to repeat the practicum, you will need to repeat all tasks and hours associated with your practicum. Previously logged hours may not be applied to the second practicum attempt.
