AP: Withdrawal From the Practicum: Approved

If you must leave your practicum for severe personal reasons beyond your control (e.g. background check not cleared, national disaster, major weather related event, or health issues or family emergency), you must notify your mentor and the Teacher & Principal Success team at teachersuccess@wgu.edu of the problem prior to withdrawing. Then follow the protocol below:


  1. Send an email to the above named individuals.
  2. Enter “Appeal for Approved Withdrawal <<Your Name>> in the email subject line.
  3. Enter your name, student ID number, state of residence, program of study, and mentor name in the first line of the email.
  4. Provide a detailed explanation of your reason for withdrawal, along with documentation supporting your explanation. If you are requesting approval of a withdrawal based on a disability or medical condition, you will need to submit supporting documentation to WGU’s Student Accessibility Services office at adasupport@wgu.edu to maintain confidentiality of your records. The Teacher & Principal Success team will not be able to discuss any details regarding a disability or health related issue to support your request for withdrawal. WGU’s Student Accessibility Services office will review the documentation to determine if the information adequately supports your request for an approved withdrawal.   5. Discuss options with the Teacher & Principal Success team at teachersuccess@wgu.edu that would allow for the problem to be resolved or the placement to be postponed or reassigned.

The Teacher & Principal Success team will review your documentation and request for an approval to withdraw. If the team approves your withdrawal, you may thereafter appeal to be considered for a second practicum.
