Formal Request to Repeat DT After an Approved Withdrawal

If you have had an approved withdrawal from demonstration teaching (DT) and it has been 12 months or less since the withdrawal, you may work with your mentor to request to repeat DT in a future cohort by submitting a formal request to repeat DT.

Complete the following items to submit a Formal Request to Repeat DT After an Approved Withdrawal.

Submit a written request to the Teacher Success team at teachersuccess@wgu.edu and include the following information:

  • In the email subject line state: Formal Request to Repeat DT <<Your Name and Student ID>>
  • Provide a general explanation of your reason for withdrawal from the DT cohort, along with documentation supporting your explanation. If you are requesting to repeat DT in a future cohort for a previously approved disability or medical condition, to maintain confidentiality of your records you will need to submit the supporting documentation to WGU’s Student Accessibility Services.*

*If your request to repeat DT in a future cohort is related to a disability or medical condition, to maintain confidentiality of your records, you must submit all supporting documentation to WGU’s Student Accessibility Services. Make sure to specify in your email to adasupport@wgu.edu that the documentation is for a request to repeat DT in a future cohort. To ensure your confidentiality, the Teacher Success team will not be able to discuss any details regarding a disability or health related issue. See the article in the student handbook titled Policies and Procedures for Students with Disabilities (opens new window) to understand your rights and responsibilities. The Student Accessibility Services office will review the documentation to determine whether the information supports your request for an Approved Self-Withdraw from a DT cohort. Contact Student Accessibility Services for more information about your documentation at 877-435-7948, ext. 5922.

Once all documentation is submitted and approved, the Teacher Success team will review your formal request to repeat DT and respond within 15 business days.

Next Steps

The formal request to repeat DT through Teacher Success approves or denies you the opportunity to participate in a DT cohort again. After reviewing your request, the Teacher Success team will issue one of following outcomes.

  • Approved: If approved, you will need to apply to a DT cohort through Field Placement during the next available application window and meet all application and academic requirements for DT. You will not be eligible for an upcoming cohort if you have missed application deadlines or have not been an active WGU student for more than one year. If you repeat DT, you must also repeat and fully participate in, all aspects of the cohort seminar.
  • Conditionally Approved: If conditionally approved, you will need to meet additional conditions before you receive full approval which may include a phone or webcam interview.
  • Denied: If denied and you wish to appeal the denial, you may submit a written appeal to the Field Experience Manager at teachersuccess@wgu.edu.

Note: Students may repeat DT only one time after a previous fail. If you fail DT for a second time, Teacher Success will counselor you on your options which may include a program change into a non-licensure program.
