You must receive approval from the WGU Field Placement office prior to beginning any in-school activities related to the practicum. Your mentor can guide you to complete the required Student Application. If you have any questions related to the Student Application and Practicum Approval Process, please contact your mentor or firstname.lastname@example.org. You will not receive official clearance to begin your practicum until you:
Provide proof of current background check.
Provide proof of professional liability insurance through:
Teaching contract at site where practicum will occur or
Proof of outside liability insurance including: insurance policy provider, your name and coverage dates.
Provide a signed FERPA form.
Provide a clinical supervisor (CS) who meets the following qualifications:
A minimum of five years of experience in P-12 schools with three or more years teaching special education.
Master’s degree in the field of education preferred, a Bachelor’s degree in education required.
A current or previous administrator certification and/or teaching license in special education.
Experience teaching and/or supervising in special education.
Application and Statement of Work on file with WGU that includes resume, vita (CV), or listing of experience and qualifications.
Access to a computer with email and internet connection for corresponding with students and WGU staff and completing online observation and evaluation forms.
Commitment to demonstrating and modeling the same dispositions and ethical considerations expected of WGU teacher candidates.
