Professional Liability Insurance for Educators

WGU assumes no financial responsibility or liability for its teacher or principal candidates. Students must provide proof of insurance and liability protection to receive approval for field experiences. Students who do not have coverage may obtain professional educators liability insurance at a minimal cost through educators’ associations, personal insurance, or membership in the National Education Association’s (NEA). For information about NEA membership, see Aspiring Educator Membership (opens new window)

  3. Select the state of your residence from the map.
  4. The enrollment form and the renewal form are the same form. The top of the form says "Enrollment/Renewal” form. Complete the Educators Liability Insurance Form (opens new window) or submit a copy of your NEA Welcome Letter email as proof of coverage on your Field Experience page.


Note: Enrollment for the current NEA membership year is available online from the start of the membership year, September 1, through the end of May. Beginning July 1, the online system accepts applications for enrollment for the next membership year. 


Coverage under such professional liability insurance shall not be less than one million dollars ($1,000,000.00) for each occurrence and three million dollars ($3,000,000.00) in the aggregate.
