Self-Withdrawal: Approved

If you must leave demonstration teaching (DT) for severe personal reasons beyond your control (e.g., background check not cleared, natural disaster, major weather-related event, health issues, or family emergency), you must notify your program mentor, the cohort facilitator, and the Teacher Success team at of the problem prior to withdrawing from DT, or notifying your host teacher, clinical supervisor, and principal.


Complete the following steps to request an Approved Withdrawal.


Step 1: Send an email to your program mentor, cohort facilitator, and the Teacher Success team

with the following:

  • Enter “Appeal for Approved Withdrawal from DT Cohort: <<Your Name>>” in the email subject line.
  • Enter your name, student ID number, state of residence, program of study, and program mentor’s name in the first line of the email.
  • Provide a general explanation of your reason for withdrawal from the DT cohort, along with documentation supporting your explanation. If the reason is related to a disability or medical condition it is crucial that do not send this information to your mentor, cohort facilitator, or Teacher Success, instead you will contact WGU’s Student Accessibility Services*

*If your appeal for an Approved Self-Withdraw from a DT cohort is related to a disability or medical condition, to maintain confidentiality of your records, you must submit all supporting documentation to WGU’s Student Accessibility Services. Make sure to specify in your email to that the documentation is for withdrawal from a DT cohort. To ensure your confidentiality, the Teacher Success team will not be able to discuss any details regarding a disability or health related issue. Step 2: Discuss options that would allow for the problem to be resolved or the placement to be postponed or reassigned with the Teacher Success team at


The Teacher Success team will review your request for an Approved Self-Withdraw from a DT cohort and will inform you in writing of the decision.
