The vision and mission of the Teachers College of Western Governors University (WGU) is to prepare professional educators who are extremely competent, caring and considerate, affirming of diversity and cross culturally competent, reflective practitioners, equitable and fair, committed to the belief that all students can learn, collaborative, technologically proficient, and demonstrate professional leadership. As a result of this preparation, WGU graduates will form a cohort of highly qualified future teachers and be recognized as coming from the premier competency-based, online, and truly national teachers college. This Field Experiences Handbook addresses both WGU teacher candidates pursuing initial licensure and the clinical supervisors and host teachers who are so vital to candidate success during preclinical experiences (PCE) and demonstration teaching (DT) (WGU’s terms for clinical practice or student teaching).

We strive to ensure that WGU teacher candidates and graduates share and act upon this belief, thus meeting the needs of their students and the school systems they serve. Furthermore, we believe that it is the right of every child to be taught by a highly qualified teacher and that our graduates will be fully prepared in disposition and academics to meet this standard.
