WGU understands that some students may experience unusual financial hardship during their degree programs. To help financially struggling students achieve their graduation goals, WGU established a scholarship fund for students who encounter hardships out of their control. Each scholarship will be a one-time award to help a student continue with his or her studies, instead of taking a term break or withdrawing.
The value of the scholarship varies, typically between $500-$1,000, and is decided based on circumstances and needs of students being awarded. It will not cover the full-term tuition costs. Funds are limited, and although students may meet the minimum qualifications to be considered, not every student applying will be awarded; awardees are selected based upon their degree of need and their academic records.
To be eligible for this fund, students must:
Be enrolled at WGU and have completed at least two terms
Have maintained Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and demonstrate the ability to be a successful WGU student.
Students applying for this scholarship are also encouraged to utilize any financial aid funds available. If students are awarded enough financial aid money to adequately cover the cost of attendance (COA), they will not be eligible for additional funding. This scholarship is not intended to be a replacement for student loans. Students' financial awards, including grants, scholarships, and loans, cannot exceed the COA per federal regulations.
To apply for this scholarship, students should complete a scholarship application. They will need to complete the General Application, as well as the supplemental Financial Support Fund application. Once completed, the Scholarships Team will contact students within 1-2 business days to complete the next steps.
