Can I record a Panopto video if not connected to the Internet?

Question

Can I record a Panopto video if not connected to the Internet?

Answer

Yes. Panopto for Windows and Panopto for Mac have offline recording functionality. The key point is that you must first install the Panopto recorder on your computer, for which Internet connectivity is necessary. However, after the recorder is installed on your computer, you can record video/audio, screen capture, and PowerPoint capture even if not connected to the Internet.

This functionality is useful if you plan to record your video in a location that has spotty, inaccessible, or no, Internet.

  1. Install the Panopto recorder on your computer while connected to the Internet
  2. Open the recorder, and sign in to it, at least once while connected to the Internet. Note: On the login page, under the WGU username and password, you must check the box "Remember me (required for offline recordings)  Remember_me_checkbox.png
  3. Without Internet connectivity, create the offline recording by opening the recorder (do not sign in) > Create new recording > Record > Stop
  4. Check the "Manage Recordings" tab to confirm the recording lists as "Offline Recording"
  5. Upload the offline recording when you are able to connect to the Internet
