WGU Community Guidelines
Purpose of the WGU Communities
Welcome to the WGU Community! The focus of the WGU Community is to encourage the development of competence, academic progress, and relationships with peers, alumni, instructors and mentors as students engage in collaborative learning. Please note that if a student requires a referral for one-on-one tutoring, the interpretation of assessment results, or additional guidance with a course, the student should connect with a program mentor or course instructor for additional support.
1. Be respectful
Respect people's time and attention by asking well-thought-out questions and sharing what you've learned so far in your experimentation or prior research. Respect people as individuals by keeping your tone positive and your comments constructive. Occasionally there will be a differing of opinions. It is possible to disagree while maintaining respect. Disputes that cannot be resolved between community members will be addressed by WGU Community moderators. Use of profanity is prohibited and will be removed from discussion threads.
2. Engage in fitting and relevant dialogue
Posts that have no substance and may be obscene or vulgar in content are not allowed. WGU Community members should not post content that is illegal, copyrighted, or offensive to other community members. Prohibitive language, such as rants that are filled with angry and hostile language, is not allowed. The goal of the WGU Community is to promote a pleasant and safe place for students to get help with their academic studies. Rants are disruptive to learning and instigate discord.
3. Protect privacy - yours and others’
Don't share anything about yourself or your organization that you would not want to see on a road-side billboard. Share your WGU email address if you wish, but don't post personal information-your own or anyone else's-including contact information or any content that you receive in one-to-one communications without the author's prior consent.
4. Helpful replies provide students and alumni guidance without sharing specific details about courses or assessments
Posting assessment details, such as exam question text, in the community is in violation of the WGU Code of Student Conduct. The post will be removed and disciplinary action may be taken.
5. Remember, this is user-generated content
You'll find plenty of good advice here, but remember that your situation may vary from that of other individuals sharing information and solutions within the WGU Community. Some advice you find here may even be wrong. Apply the same good judgment here that you would apply to information anywhere on the Internet.
Students’ and alumni’s replies to discussion threads that violate any of these community rules will result in the student or alumnus being contacted by a WGU Community Moderator. The post may then be removed from the community, and the matter may be referred for disciplinary action per the WGU Code of Student Conduct. Subsequent violations of these rules may lead to restricted participation in the community or escalated disciplinary action.
By using these forums and other features of the WGU Community you agree to follow these rules as well as the full Terms of Service for the WGU Community. We thank you for making the WGU Community a place that reflects the thriving academic community at Western Governors University.
