Academic Progress - Nursing Programs

In addition to the requirements of the WGU Academic Progress policy, the following policies apply to the Nursing programs:

Student Conduct Dismissal


A student may be subject to dismissal when, in the judgment of the Student Conduct Board, the good of the client, WGU, or the public welfare is threatened. See the Code of Student Conduct. Students are expected to demonstrate professional dispositions appropriate to the field of nursing. Academic Dismissal from the Prelicensure Nursing Program


Automatic dismissal from the Prelicensure Nursing program occurs when:

 

  1. A student fails an objective assessment twice and was denied an appeal for a third attempt or;
  2. A student was granted an appeal for a third attempt and failed the third attempt or;
  3. A student was granted an appeal for a third attempt in two previous nursing courses and has a second attempt failure in a subsequent nursing courses (with the exception of the Comprehensive Predictor) or;
  4. A student fails the Comprehensive Predictor on a third attempt.

Academic Dismissal from the BSN or MSN Nursing Program

Automatic dismissal from the BSN or MSN Nursing program occurs when:

          a. A student fails an objective assessment four times and was denied a fifth attempt.

          b. A student was granted a fifth attempt appeal and failed the fifth attempt.

 

Readmission to Nursing Programs


Students seeking readmission to the Prelicensure Nursing Program should refer to the WGU Prelicensure BSN Readmission Policy.

Prelicensure Nursing Program Completion and Eligibility for Pinning

 

The Prelicensure BSN student who is engaged in their final course of their program, will be eligible to participate in the pinning ceremony and can receive the WGU nursing pin. Students who have more than one course remaining in their degree plan will not be permitted to participate in the pinning ceremony.
