WGU Office Emergency Notification The local police department for each facility has the primary responsibility of responding to, and summoning the necessary resources, to mitigate, investigate, and document emergencies in the office. In addition, local police have the responsibility to determine if the situation does, in fact, pose a threat to the community.
Timely Warning of Violent Crimes and Threats of Violence WGU will issue timely warning notices for the University community to notify members of the community about violent crimes or threats of violence, where it is determined the incident may pose an ongoing threat to members of the Western Governors University community. These warnings are issued if an incident is reported by WGU to local police.
The University will post updates during a significant emergency or dangerous situation on the employee portal, student portal, via email or via social media when appropriate.
Upon confirmation of an immediate threat to the safety or health of the office community, WGU will communicate the threat without delay and taking into account the safety of the University community, using some or all of the systems described above, unless issuing a notification will, in the judgment of the first responders (including, but not limited to, local police, fire, and emergency medical services), compromise the efforts to assist a victim or to contain, respond to, or otherwise mitigate the emergency.
