Alaska BA Special Education/ Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Alaska, this program leads to an Initial teaching license in  Special Education K-12 and Elementary Education Grades K-8


1. Content Exam for Elementary Education:  You must pass one of these exams to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification. 

a) Praxis 5018 Elementary Education: Content Knowledge OR  

b) Praxis 5001 Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (4 subtests) OR 

c) Praxis 5017 Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment 



2. Content Exam for Special Education Certification:  You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification. This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

a) Praxis 5543, Special Education, Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications



Several months prior to Demonstration Teaching, you must apply to be a student teacher. See the Alaska Student Teaching Form instructions in this handbook for more information.
