Alabama Basic Skills Requirements

Basic Skills Exam:  The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5752) 

OR  The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751)

Students may mix and match subtests of the Praxis Core 5752 and 5751 to satisfy the basic skills requirement.

 

The test numbers for each exam are as follows:

Praxis 5752: Combined Test (5752), Reading (5713), Writing (5723), Math (5733)

Praxis 5751: Combined Test (5751), Reading (5712), Writing (5722), Math (5732)

 

Previous Exam Requirement:  Alabama Educator Certification Testing Program (AECTP) - Passing AECTP scores prior to September 1, 2017 will satisfy the Basic Skills exam requirement. 


While the Alabama Department of Education does not require a basic skills exam for out-of-state applicants obtaining teacher certification via the reciprocity pathway, WGU requires all students enrolled in an initial teacher preparation program pass a basic skills exam.
