AL Early Childhood Certification and Exam Requirements

Alabama Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements

Note: WGU graduates who want to become certified in Alabama must do so through the reciprocity process by first licensing in Utah.  Graduates may apply for a reciprocal license in Alabama after receiving their Utah license. Refer to the following articles for specific state licensure requirements: general Utah teacher certification requirements and general Alabama teacher certification requirements.

Exams completed for Utah certification will be reported to the Alabama State Department of Education as part of the reciprocity licensure application process.  The ALSDE may require additional exams for Alabama licensure at their discretion.

In Alabama, this program leads to a Professional Educator Certificate in Early Childhood Pk-grade 3.

1) Content Exam for Utah Certification: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects  OR Praxis 5025, Early Childhood Education

Or, if at least one sub-test is passed on or before 8/31/2014 with all four sub-tests passed on or before 7/1/2015: Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects

One of these tests must be passed in order to graduate and be recommended for certification.

The Praxis 5001 also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

2) Pedagogy Exam for Alabama Certification: Praxis 5204, Teaching Reading

This exam is not required for graduation. This exam must be passed in order to apply for Alabama certification.
