Alabama Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements
Note: WGU graduates who want to become certified in Alabama must do so through the reciprocity process by first licensing in Utah. Graduates may apply for a reciprocal license in Alabama after receiving their Utah license. Refer to the following articles for specific state licensure requirements: general Utah teacher certification requirements and general Alabama teacher certification requirements.
Exams completed for Utah certification will be reported to the Alabama State Department of Education as part of the reciprocity licensure application process. The ALSDE may require additional exams for Alabama licensure at their discretion.
In Alabama, this program leads to a Professional Educator Certificate in Early Childhood Pk-grade 3.
You must pass one of these exams to graduate from the program and be recommended for teacher certification.
Or, if one subtest was passed prior to 8/31/2014, and all four subtests passed prior to 7/1/2015, Praxis 5031.
Or, is passed prior to 9/1/2015, Praxis 5022.
2) WGU ECE Program Requirement: If you matriculated after March 1, 2012, you must pass any of these four exams to satisfy the WGU Program Requirement and graduate from the program:
Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
Praxis 5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
3) Pedagogy Exam for Alabama Certification: Praxis 5204, Teaching Reading
This exam is not required for graduation. This exam must be passed in order to apply for Alabama certification.
