Alabama Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements
Note: WGU graduates who want to become certified in Alabama must do so through the reciprocity process by first licensing in Utah. Graduates may apply for a reciprocal license in Alabama after receiving their Utah license. In Alabama, this program leads to a Professional Educator Certificate with an endorsement in Elementary Education Grades K-6.
1) Content Exam: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification. This exam also meets the WGU Program Requirement.
Or, if passed prior to 7/1/2015, Praxis 5031
Or, if passed prior to 9/1/2012, Praxis 5014
2) Pedagogy Exam for Alabama Certification: Praxis 5204, Teaching Reading
This exam is not required for graduation. You must pass this exam to be eligible for an Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
