Alabama MS Special Education Certification

NoteWGU graduates who want to become certified in Alabama must do so through the reciprocity process by first licensing in Utah.  Graduates may apply for a reciprocal license in Alabama after receiving their Utah license. Refer to the following articles for specific state licensure requirements: general Utah teacher certification requirements and general Alabama teacher certification requirements.

Exams completed for Utah certification will be reported to the Alabama State Department of Education as part of the reciprocity licensure application process.  The ALSDE may require additional exams for Alabama licensure at their discretion.

In Alabama, this program leads to an endorsement in Collaborative Special Education, Grades K-6 and Grades 6-12.

Content Exam for UT Certification: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications  OR Praxis 5354, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications.  One of these exams must be passed in order to be recommended for certification.

All MSSP students who matriculated on or after 9/1/2011 must pass the Praxis 5543 to meet the WGU Program Requirement and graduate.  The Praxis 5354 does not satisfy WGU program requirement.
