Arizona BA Special Education/ Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

Note: WGU students applying for certification in Arizona need to first license in Utah after completing their teacher preparation program; a student can then apply for a reciprocal license in Arizona after receiving their Utah license. Refer to the following for specific state requirements: general Utah teacher certification requirements and general Arizona teacher certification requirements.

In Arizona, this program leads to certifications in Mild to Moderate Disabilities, Grades K-12 and Elementary Education, Grades 1-8

1) Elementary Education Content Exam: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects

(Or the Praxis II 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects, if at least one sub-test was passed on or before 8/31/2014 with all four sub-tests passed on or before 7/1/2015. The Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge exam, may also be used for certification if passed prior to 9/1/2012.)

You must pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification.

2) Special Education Content Exam: Praxis 5543 Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications. This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

You must pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification.

Because BASP/BASPEE students will apply for a Utah license before applying to Arizona, Arizona will accept Praxis exams for certification.
