CA CLAD (ESL) Certification and Exam Requirements - Direct Pathway

ESL Certificate Available:  CLAD (Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development)

The CLAD certificate is an add-on to a California teaching credential that requires either the completion of a CTC-approved CTEL (California Teachers of English Learners) program (either 12 semester or 18 quarter upper division units) or passing scores on tests 1, 2, and 3 of the CTEL Examination. The WGU endorsement program in English Language Learning is not a CTC-approved CTEL program, but it can prepare California educators for the CTEL exam route to certification.
