CNMI BA Special Education/Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Special Education / Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

WGU students who want to become certified in the Northern Mariana Islands need to first license in Utah after completing your teacher preparation program; you can then apply for a reciprocal license in the CNMI after receiving your Utah license.  You will need to take the exams required for initial UT and CNMI licensure, as indicated below, as well as meet all other general Utah teacher certification requirements and general CNMI teacher certification requirements.

LICESURE AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS

Certification Available for Graduates of WGU's BA Special Education Program: Elementary Education K-6, and Special Education K-12

Elementary Education/ Special Education Exams and Requirements

Content Exams for Initial Utah Certification:
1) Elementary Education: Praxis 5001 Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (OR if one subtest was passed prior to 8/31/2014, and all four subtests passed prior to 7/1/2015 Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects OR if passed prior to September 1, 2012: Praxis 0014 or 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge) 

This exam is required for graduation and recommendation for licensure.


2. Special Education: 

Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications

This exam also meets WGU's program requirement.

OR

 Praxis 5354 Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications

This exam is required for graduation and recommendation for licensure.

 

Content Exams for CNMI Certification: 
1. Praxis 5018: Elementary Education: Content Knowledge (OR Praxis 0014 or 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge)

This exam is required for graduation and recommendation for licensure.


2. Praxis 5354 Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications

This exam is required for graduation and recommendation for licensure.

 

 Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5622 Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6

This exam is required for recommendation for licensure.
