CNMI Early Childhood Certification and Exam Requirements

Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements

WGU students who want to become certified in the CNMI need to first license in Utah after completing their teacher preparation program; a student can then apply for a reciprocal license in the CNMI after receiving their Utah license. Refer to the following for specific state requirements: general Utah teacher certification requirements and general CNMI teacher certification requirements.


Early Childhood Education Certification Available: Early Childhood, Ages 3-5 

1) Content Exam for initial UT certification: Praxis 5001 Elementary Education Muliptle Subjects OR 5025 Early Childhood Education (OR Praxis 5022, Early Childhood)

This exam is required for graduation and recommendation for licensure. 

2) Content Exam for CNMI certification: Praxis 5025 Early Childhood Education OR 5024 Education of Young childre OR Interdiscplinary Early Childhood Education (previously Praxis 5020, Early Childhood Education)

This exam is required for graduation and recommendation for licensure.

3) Pedagogy Exam for CNMI certification:  Praxis 5621, Principles of Learning & Teaching (PLT) - Early Childhood

This exam is required for recommendation for licensure. 

WGU ECE Program Requirement (for students who matriculated on March 1, 2012 or later. See the WGU Program Requirement for the Early Childhood Education program)

You have four options to satisfy the WGU Program Requirement.  You may pass any of these four exams:

1.    Praxis  5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
2.     Praxis  5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
3.     Praxis  5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
4.     Praxis  5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
