CO BA Special Education/Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Colorado, this program leads to the teaching licenses in Elementary Education (Grades K-6) and Special Education Generalist (Ages 5-21).

1) Elementary Education Content Exam:  Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects.You must pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification.

  • OR, if taken between 9/1/2014 and 8/31/2016, Praxis 5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge. Passing scores are accepted until 8/31/21.
  • OR, if passed by 5/6/2017, PLACE (01) Elementary Education. Passing scores will be accepted for 5 years until 5/6/2022.
  • OR, if passed by 8/31/14, Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge. 

2) Special Education Content Exam: Praxis 5354, Special Education: Core Knowledge and ApplicationsYou must pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification.

  • OR, If passed between 9/1/2008 and 5/6/2017, PLACE (20) Special Education Generalist. Passing scores for this exam will be accepted until 5/6/22.

3) WGU Program Requirement: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications.  This exam is required for graduation for students who matriculated on 9/1/11 or after. You must pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification.
