Connecticut BA Special Education/ Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

WGU students in the BA Special Education program who want to become certified in Connecticut need to first license in Utah after completing their teacher preparation program. A student can then apply for a reciprocal license in CT after receiving their Utah license. Refer to the following for specific state requirements: general Utah teacher certification requirements and general Connecticut teacher certification requirements.

 

In Connecticut, this program leads to a license in Comprehensive Special Education: K-12 and Elementary Education 1-6.

 

1) Elementary Education Content Exam for Connecticut and Utah Certification:

Praxis 5001 Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects

You must pass this exam to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

 

2) Special Education Content Exam for Connecticut and Utah Certification:

Praxis 5543 Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications

You must pass this exam to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

 

3) Pedagogy Exam for Connecticut Certification:

Connecticut Foundations of Reading (090)

This exam is not required for graduation, but is required to receive a license recommendation from WGU.
