Connecticut Basic Skills Requirements

Basic Skills Exam: Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751)
While Connecticut does not currently require a basic skills exam for licensure, WGU requires all students in the Teachers College pass a basic skills test. You are required to pass all three sections of the Praxis Core basic skills examination or meet waiver requirements* within the first six months of entering the Foundations of Teaching (FOT) domain at WGU.

Previous Basic Skills Exam (Must be passed by 8/31/2014):  Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST).
This exam can be used to satisfy Connecticut's basic skills exam requirement only if you apply for certification prior to August 31, 2019.

Through August 31, 2016, if you passed some subsections of the PPST, but did not pass all three, you will NOT need to re-take the Core tests that correspond to the sections of the PPST that you passed. A mix of passing scores on the Praxis I PPST and the Praxis Core Academic Skills Test in reading, writing AND mathematics will be accepted. However, as of September 1, 2016, all three subtests must be passed from one test type, either PPST or Core, but not a mix of the two.

The minimum required scores for Praxis Core are available here.

You should sign up to take your basic skills examination when you begin studying Foundations of Teaching to ensure you have time to complete the examination prior to enrollment in Effective Teaching Practices.

To ensure that WGU receives your scores and can verify your eligibility for DT, you must fax a copy of your official score report to the Assessments Office at 1-801-606-7021 or email a scanned copy to scores@wgu.eduIf you uploaded your official basic skills passing scores as part of your DT application, you do not need to fax or email your scores separately.

*Basic Skills Waiver Options:

A waiver is possible if you meet cut score requirements on either the SAT, ACT, or GRE. WGU will accept minimum scores on these exams to waive the Basic Skills requirement:
