Note: The Florida Bureau of Educator Certification requires that those seeking to add additional subject coverages or endorsement areas to their current teaching certificates apply for the additional certification area before completing coursework and/or testing leading to that additional certification. The Bureau will issue a Statement of Status of Eligibility to the applicant outlining requirements for the new area, thus ensuring that the applicant follows the correct path to certification.

Florida educators holding a valid Florida temporary or professional certificate can add additional subject coverages or endorsement areas to their current teaching certificates by either passing a FTCE subject-area exam in the area of certification sought and/or by completing content coursework requirements as indicated in the Florida State Board Rules available at this link.

Once requirements on the Statement of Status of Eligibility have been satisfied, application for the additional subject coverage/endorsement can be made by following the instructions in the Florida Certification Application Information article in this handbook.

Note: The requirements to add an endorsement in Florida are the same, whether you are adding an endorsement at a new grade level (Elementary to Secondary) or the same grade level (Secondary to Secondary).
