Georgia has the following general requirements for all applicants of an initial Clear Renewable teaching certificate who have completed an out-of-state teacher preparation program:

1. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a teacher education program that is approved to lead to teacher certification in the home state of the program and is offered by a post-secondary institution with a major course of study in the same field area of the Georgia certificate being sought.

2. BASIC SKILLS AND CONTENT EXAMS: Passing scores on the appropriate Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) for content knowledge and basic skills.

3. BACKGROUND CLEARANCE: Compliance with the ethical standards of the profession. Applicants for certification must respond to background check questions on the application form. An FBI background check (fingerprint) is required for employment in Georgia public schools and a Georgia criminal history check is required every five years for certificate renewal. For more information about the Code of Ethics for Educators and the GaPSC Ethics Division, please visit the Ethics page.

4. GACE EDUCATOR ETHICS - PROGRAM EXIT ASSESSMENT (GACE 360): The Educator Ethics - Program Exit (GACE 360) assessment is required for all Georgia certification applicants. Register for the assessment through your MyPSC account. Scores will be transmitted electronically to the GaPSC approximately two weeks after the testing date.

5. EXCEPTIONAL CHILD COURSE: Completion of coursework in the identification and education of children who have special educational needs. This requirement is covered by coursework at WGU.

6. TEACHING PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT: Completion of teaching performance assessment (edTPA) during student teaching.
