Georgia MS Special Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Georgia, this program leads to an endorsement in Special Education General Curriculum P-12.

1) Georgia Content Exam: GACE Special Education General Curriculum Test I (081) AND Test II (082).

While these exams is not required for graduation, you must pass this exam to be recommended for licensure. 

  • There are several GACE Special Education Exams. Be sure you register for the GACE Special Education General Curriculum exam (081, 082, or the 581 if you choose to take both subtests back-to-back). WGU cannot accept any other Special Education exam to satisfy certification requirements. 

2) WGU Program Requirement: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate ApplicationsIf you matriculated after 9/1/2011, you must pass this exam to graduate and be recommended for your endorsement. 

Practicum: Those who matriculate in the MS Special Education program after March 1, 2010 will complete 240 in-class clock hours of supervised practicum in elementary and secondary special education classrooms as part of their capstone project. 

Registering for GACE Exams

  • To be able to register for any GACE exam, you must have a MyPSC Account, available at  Make sure the name on your MyPSC account matches the valid identification documents you will show at the test site. 
  • On MyPSC, you must choose the assessment you wish to take and select the reason why you need to take a GACE assessment.  Current WGU students should select #4 "I am enrolled, or plan to enroll, in an out-of-state (non-Georgia) certification program ..." as the reason why you need to take a GACE assessment.
  • Under the Request eligibility to take a GACE assessment section, select the appropriate exam. 
  • Once your MyPSC account has been established and the appropriate exam and the reason for testing has been selected, you may then register for the exam on the GACE website at  The website will provide you with available test dates. Minimum score requirements can be found here.
