Iowa BA Special Education/Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Iowa, your program leads to licenses in Teacher - Elementary Classroom (K-6) and Instructional Strategist I (K-8) Mild and Moderate.

 

Obtaining an initial Utah license is required to apply for an exchange license in Iowa via the Reciprocity Pathway.

 

1) Content Exam for Utah Elementary CertificationPraxis 5001 Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects

You must pass this exam to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification in Utah.

 

2) Content Exam for Utah Special Education Certification: Praxis 5543 Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications this exam also fulfulls the WGU Program Requirement.
You must pass this exam to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification in Utah.

 
3) Pedagogy Exam for Iowa Certification: Praxis II 5622, Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6

Note: If you completed edTPA during the demonstration teaching portion of your WGU teacher preparation program, then you do not need to pass Praxis 5622. If you did not complete edTPA, then you will need to pass Praxis 5622 to be eligible for licensure recommendation in Iowa.

  
PRE-CLINICAL EXPERIENCES 
Effective September 2015, Iowa requires at least two different grade levels for preclinical experiences: one primary and one intermediate.
