Teacher – Elementary Classroom K-6

American Government, 5-12

American History, 5-12

Iowa has the following general requirements for all applicants for an exchange teacher certification who have completed an out-of-state teacher preparation program:

1. RECIPROCITY/OUT-OF-STATE LICENSE: Hold a valid teaching license in the state in which the teacher preparation program was completed (see Utah Certification Requirements).

2. DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

3. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a state approved teacher preparation program.

4. BACKGROUND CLEARANCE: Completion of the required background checks.

5. EXAM REQUIREMENTS: Passing scores on the required Praxis II content and pedagogy exams.

6. PRE-CLINICAL EXPERIENCES:  Beginning September 2015, IA will require Elementary Education teacher candidates to have at least two different grade levels for pre-clinical experiences: one primary and one intermediate.

7. TEACHING PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT: Completion of teaching performance assessment (edTPA) during student teaching.
