IA Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

Iowa Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Iowa, this program leads to an Initial License in Elementary Education Grades K-6

Obtaining an initial Utah license is required to apply for an exchange license in Iowa via the Reciprocity Pathway.

1. Content Exam: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects

You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification. This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

Iowa will accept the Praxis 5001 as required for the Utah license to meet the content exam requirement for a reciprocal license.

2. Pedagogy Exam:  Praxis 5622, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6

Note: If you completed edTPA during the demonstration teaching portion of your WGU teacher preparation program, then you do not need to pass Praxis 5622. If you did not complete edTPA, then you will need to pass Praxis 5622 to be eligible for licensure recommendation in Iowa.
