Illinois Master of Arts in Science Education (MASE) Certification and Exam Requirements
While students in initial teacher preparation programs must obtain a license in Utah before applying for certification in Illinois, students in endorsement programs, like the MASE program, seeking an endorsement at the same grade level of the initial endorsement, may apply directly to Illinois for certification.
In Illinois, this program leads to a license with an endorsement in one of the following areas:
Biology, Grades 6-12
Chemistry, Grades 6-12
Earth and Space Science, Grades 6-12
Physics, Grades 6-12
Students should not enroll in the middle grades science education program (MASE Middle Grades) at WGU. Illinois requires the completion of additional middle-school pedagogy coursework to teach in grades 6-8. WGU does not offer these courses. For more information, please review the Middle Grades Endorsement Requirements in Illinois in effect prior to 2/1/2018. For middle grades endorsement information after 2/1/2018, please see Middle Grades Teaching Endorsements.
Refer to the Adding an Endorsement to an Illinois Teaching Certificate for information on how to add new areas to your license in Illinois.
