IN BA Special Education/Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements - Direct Pathway

In Indiana, this program leads to an Initial Practitioner license in Elementary Generalist (Grades K-6) and Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention (Grades P-12).

 

You must satisfy the following requirements prior to graduation and/or being recommended for licensure.

 

1. Elementary Education Content Exam (Choose One)

You must satisfy this requirement prior to graduation and being recommended for licensure.

1.1. IN CORE, Elementary Education Generalist, Subtests 1-4 (060, 061, 062, and 063)OR

1.2. Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects, if passed prior to 5/31/2014, OR

1.3. Praxis 5011, Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, if passed prior to 8/31/2012.

2. Special Education Content Exam (Choose One)

You must satisfy this requirement prior to graduation and being recommended for licensure.

2.1. IN CORE, Exceptional Needs – Mild Intervention (025)OR

2.2. Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications, if passed prior to 5/31/2014, OR

2.3. Both of the following, if passed prior to 8/31/2011:

2.3.1. Praxis 5353 (Retired)AND

2.3.2. Praxis 5542 (Retired)

3. WGU Program Requirement

You must satisfy this requirement prior to graduation and being recommended for licensure.

3.1. Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications. This exam is only required for students who matriculater on or after 9/1/2011.

4. Pedagogy Exam (Choose One)

You must satisfy this requirement prior to being recommended for licensure.

4.1. IN CORE 005, Elementary EducationOR

4.2. Praxis 0300, Reading Specialist, if passed prior to 8/31/2012.
