IN MS Special Education Certification and Exam Requirements - Direct Pathway

In Indiana, this program leads to a license addition in Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention P-12.


Exam Requirements

1) Content Exam - Two Exams May be Necessary
IN CORE 025, Exceptional Needs – Mild Intervention.

OR Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications, if passed by 5/31/14
OR Praxis 5353 AND 5542 exams, if passed by 8/31/11.
This exam is not required for graduation but is required to receive a license recommendation from WGU.
 

AND

 

IN CORE 064, Exceptional Needs – Mild Intervention: Reading Instruction

Note: You must pass the IN CORE 064 exam if you are adding Mild Intervention K-12 to a middle grades or secondary license. You must also pass the IN CORE 064 exam unless you previously passed one of the following exams when you obtained your initial teaching license:

1 - If you have an Early Childhood license and you previously passed the (014) Early Childhood Generalist Subtest 1: Reading and English Language Arts,

2 - If you have an Elementary Education license and you previously passed the (060) Elementary Education Generalist Subtest 1: Reading and English Language Arts, 

3 - If you have a non-special education license and you previously passed the (038) Reading.

If you did not pass one of these three exams when you obtained your initial teaching license and you are adding to a middle grades or secondary license, you must pass the IN CORE 064 exam.

This exam is not required for graduation but is required to receive a license recommendation from WGU.


2) WGU Program Requirement (for students who matriculated on 9/1/2011 or after)

Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications
You must pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification.
