Kentucky Basic Skills Requirement - Direct & Approved Pathway

Basic Skills Exam: Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751)

The Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) has established the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators exam (Core) in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics as the required basic skills exam for admission into a teacher preparation program. WGU requires all students who reside in Kentucky to pass all three sections of the Core basic skills examination within the first 6 months of entering the Foundations of Teaching (FOT) domain at WGU. 

 

Alternate Basic Skills Options (GRE or Praxis I):

 

GRE: You may be permitted to use your Graduate Record Exam (GRE) to satisfy the basic skills exam requirement if you achieved the following scores:
Prior to August 1, 2011: 

  • Verbal Reasoning score of at least 450
  • Quantitative Reasoning score of at least 490
  • Analytical Writing score of at least 4.0

After August 1, 2011:

  • Verbal Reasoning score of at least 150
  • Quantitative Reasoning score of at least 143
  • Analytical Writing score of at least 4.0

To ensure WGU receives your scores and can verify your eligibility for field experiences, you must fax a copy of your official score report to the Assessments Office at 1-801-606-7021 or email a scanned copy to scores@wgu.edu.  If you uploaded your official basic skills passing scores as part of your Field Experience application, you do not need to fax or email your scores separately.


All Praxis exams must be less than 5 years old at time you apply for licensure in Kentucky.
