Certified Maryland educators may add subjects/fields to their MD teaching certificates by either completing an approved program in the new certification area, completing 30 semester hours and assessments if applicable, or by submitting a qualifying score on the appropriate Praxis content assessment.  No pedagogy assessment is required to add an endorsement to a professional MD certificate.

Educators currently employed in a Maryland school system must apply for endorsements through their employing school districts. Certified teachers who are not currently employed in a Maryland school district can apply for endorsements by submitting transcripts and Praxis test scores directly to the Maryland Department of Education per the instructions at this link.

Either application pathway requires that you request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college where you completed coursework applicable to the endorsement sought. Please note that two copies of your final WGU transcript will be sent to you along with your diploma upon graduation. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see WGU Transcript Request. Do not request a transcript until you have received notice of graduation, so that your graduation date will appear on your transcript. Be sure to leave your transcripts in the sealed envelopes to be included with your application packet.

Note: The requirements to add an endorsement in Maryland are the same, whether you are adding an endorsement at a new grade level (Elementary to Secondary) or the same grade level (Secondary to Secondary).
