Maryland MS Special Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Maryland, this program leads to an endorsement in Special Education 1-8 or 6-12.

 

Exam Requirement Note
WGU Program Requirement Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications (paper version Praxis 0543) This exam is required for graduation.
MD Special Education Content Exam  Praxis 5354, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications This exam is required prior to being recommended for certification.
MD Pedagogy Exam

Praxis 5205, Teaching Reading: Elementary*

*Candidates applying for certification after 9/1/2019 are required to pass this exam prior to certification.

This exam is required for certification.


Practicum Requirement
 

Those who matriculate in the MS Special Education program after March 1, 2010 will complete 240 in-class clock hours of supervised practicum in elementary and secondary special education classrooms as part of their capstone project.
