Maine Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Maine, this program leads to a Conditional Certificate in Early Elementary K-3.


1) Content Exam:  Praxis 5024, Education of Young Children
(Or, if passed prior to 9/1/2014:  Praxis 5021, Education of Young Children. Applicants who obtain a passing score on the Praxis 5021 must apply for certification by August 31, 2019.)

You must pass this exam to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

2) WGU Program Required Exam: a) Praxis II 5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge or b) Praxis II 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects 

You must pass one of these exams, or a WGU Program Requirement exam previously accepted for the Early Childhood Education program, in order to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification. 

If you matriculated on or after March 1, 2012, you must pass one of these exams to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.   

 

3) Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5621, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Early Childhood

You must pass this exam to be recommended for certification
