Maine Secondary Science Certification and Exam Requirements

 

In Maine, WGU's initial teacher preparation programs in science lead to a Conditional Certificate in one of the following Secondary Science Certification areas 

Life Science (Biology Majors), Grades 7-12
Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science Majors), Grades 7-12

 * Beginning 7/1/19, the grade range for this license will change to Grades 6-12.



Secondary Science Exams and Requirements:

You must pass one content exam plus the WGU Program Required exam to graduate from your program. You must take the required pedagogy exam to be recommended for teacher certification. 

 


 Area of Certification

 

 Required Praxis II Exams

Science 7-12, Life Science (biology)


Content Exam: 5235, Biology: Content Knowledge


Pedagogy Exam:
5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7-12

 


Science 7-12, Physical Science (includes chemistry, physics, and earth sciences)


Content Exam: Choose ONE of the following:
A. Praxis II 5245, Chemistry: Content Knowledge; OR
B. Praxis II 5435, General Science: Content Knowledge; OR
C. Praxis II 5265, Physics: Content Knowledge
(Or if passed prior to 9/1/14: 0481, Physical Science: Content Knowledge) 


Pedagogy Exam:
5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7-12
