Minnesota Basic Skills Requirement

 

Minnesota requires a Basic Skills Exam be taken for licensure.

 

Basic Skills Exam Options Notes
Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills For the deadline see Pacing Guides: Preparing for Demonstration Teaching.
Alternative Exam: Praxis Core May be passed in lieu of the Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills exam. Accepted by MN since WGU is an out of state institution. 
Alternative Exam: ACT Plus Writing The ACT standard version is not accepted; you must pass the ACT Plus Writing.  To meet the Basic Skills Requirement you must achieve a composite score > or = 22 AND a combined English/Writing > or = 21.  Scores accepted are from February 2005 to present.
 Alternative Exam: SAT

If taken between March 12, 2005 and February 28, 2016: Reading must have a score of 510, Writing must have a score of 510, AND Math a score of 520. 

 

If taken March 1, 2016 to present: Reading + Writing must have a score of 550 AND Math must have a score of 570. 

Retired Exam: Multi-state NES Essential Academic Skills Subtests I, II, and III Accepted if passed between 6/8/2016 and 8/28/2016.
Retired Exam: MTLE Basic Skills: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics  Accepted if passed before 6/8/2016.
Retired Exam: Praxis I, PPST Basic Skills Exam Accepted if passed before 9/1/2010.
To ensure that WGU receives your scores and can verify your eligibility for DT, you must fax a copy of your official score report to the Scores Department at 1-801-606-7021 or email a scanned copy to scores@wgu.edu.
