MN ESL Certification and Exam Requirements

Minnesota Master of Arts in English Language Learning Certification and Exam Requirements
Students must be enrolled in the Master's ELL program for ESL licensure in Minnesota. Students in the Endorsement ELL program will not be eligible for licensure.

In Minnesota, this program leads to an endorsement in English as a Second Language K-12

Minnesota Content Exam: MTLE English as a Second Language (Grades K-12) 194 and 195 (2 subtests)

You must pass this exam to be recommended for an ESL endorsement.

OR, if taken prior to 8/26/2018 MTLE English as a Second Language (Grades K-12) 114 and 115 (2 subtests)


WGU Program Required Exam Praxis 5362, English to Speakers of Other Languages

You must pass this exam, or a WGU Program Requirement exam previously accepted for the English as a Second Language program, in order to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification. 

Practicum: All WGU students in an ELL program must complete a 30 hour practicum. If you wish to receive a K-12 endorsement, you need to do your practicum at both the elementary and secondary levels.
