MO Adding an Endorsement to a Teaching Certificate

Adding an Endorsement to a Missouri Teaching Certificate

Note:  While we do our best to give you accurate and up to date information about your state requirements, we are not infallible.  State requirements change frequently.  It is your responsibility, and in your best interest, to double check certification and licensure requirements with your state’s Department of Education.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Missouri educators may add a subject area by either passing appropriate content exam(s) (for certain subject areas) or by satisfying specific subject requirements.

How to Add an Additional Endorsement

MA Mathematics Education (MAME)

MA Science Education (MASE)

MS Special Education (MSSP)

Missouri educators holding a professional or life teaching certificate can add certain teaching fields, including math, science, and Special Education (Mild to Moderate), by passing the appropriate content exam(s). This option is available whether you are adding an endorsement at a new grade level (Elementary to Secondary) or the same grade level (Secondary to Secondary).

English Language Learning (ENDELL, MAELL)

Missouri educators who wish to add subject areas that may not be added by exam, such as English to Speakers of Other Languages, must complete specific coursework to be eligible to add the endorsement. Refer to the Certification Requirements for ESOL. Because WGU is a competency-based institution, students in Missouri are required to first obtain certification in the home-state of WGU:

(1) Apply for your initial license in Utah based on your original license (which includes passing the appropriate praxis exam for Utah certification and obtaining a Utah background check),
(2) Apply for the additional endorsement in Utah after completing your WGU endorsement program, and then

(3) Follow the instructions below to add your license in Missouri.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Follow the instructions here that lead you to submit an online Additional application.

Step 2: If you are applying based on the completion of a WGU program and satisfying specific subject requirements, Request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college where you completed coursework applicable to the endorsement sought. Two copies of your final WGU transcript will be sent to you along with your diploma upon graduation. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see WGU Transcript Request. Do not request a transcript until you have received notice of graduation so that your graduation date will appear on your transcript. Be sure to leave your transcripts in the sealed envelopes to be included with your application packet

Step 3: Compile all of the application documents:
1. application form,
2. official transcripts, if applicable
3. a copy of your content exam score report, if applicable.

Step 4: Submit all of these materials together in one packet to:
