Basic Skills Exam: Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)

WGU requires that all students in the Teachers College take and pass a basic skills test within the first 6 months of entering the Foundations of Teaching (FOT) domain.

MoGEA Passing Score Requirements

WGU's minimum score requirements for the subtests of the MoGEA are:

Old MoGEA (offered until 8/31/2015)

New MoGEA (after 8/31/2015)

Note about required scores on MoGEA subtests: Candidates must pass subtests in all of the content areas, and passing scores from both the "old" and the "new" versions of the MoGEA can be accepted to meet this requirement. Candidates who passed either Science (004) or Social Studies (005), but not both, must pass Science and Social Studies (69).

Other Accepted Basic Skills Exams:

  • Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core)
  • Praxis I PPST
    • If you are enrolled in a Middle Grades science program (BASC9, PBSC9*, or MATSC9*) you can not use one of the "Other Accepted Basic Skills Exams" to meet certification requirements. Rather, you must pass the MoGEA taken after 8/31/2015.

Unacceptable Exams:
WGU does not accept the CBASE to satisfy the Basic Skills Requirement.. The Missouri Department of elementary and Secondary Education has phased out the CBASE exam for admission to colleges approved for teacher education in Missouri.

Submitting Scores to WGU:
To ensure that WGU receives your scores and posts them to your degree plan, you must fax a copy of your official score report to the Scores Department at 1-801-606-7021 or email a scanned copy to

*As of 8/1/2017, WGU is no longer enrolling students in the PBSC9 or MATSC9 programs.
