Missouri ESL Adding An Endorsement - Reciprocity Pathway
Note: Students in Missouri are required to obtain a Utah teaching license prior to applying for an ESOL endorsement in Missouri. Students will do so using the Missouri Initial Professional Certificate already held. Students are encouraged to start the process to obtain a Utah license at the beginning of their MAELL or ENDELL program as this process may take several months to complete. To apply for your initial Utah license, go to the USBE website and choose the “Out-of-State (OOS) License” tab. Then follow the instructions given to apply for your Utah teaching license.
Step 1: Once you have your initial Utah teaching license, apply for your English as a Second Language endorsement in Utah by following these instructions.
Step 2: Once your English as a Second Language endorsement has been added to your Utah teaching license, apply for your English for Speakers of Other Languages certificate based on holding an out-of-state license as described on the Missouri DESE web site.
Step 3: Request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college where you completed coursework applicable to the endorsement sought. Two copies of your final WGU transcript will be sent to you along with your diploma upon graduation. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see WGU Transcript Request. Do not request a transcript until you have received notice of graduation so that your graduation date will appear on your transcript. Be sure to leave your transcripts in the sealed envelopes to be included with your application packet.
Step 4: Compile all of the application documents:
1. Application form
2. Official transcripts
3. A copy of your content exam score report, if applicable
4. A photocopy of your Utah teaching certificate
