Mississippi Basic Skills Requirement

Basic Skills Exam: Praxis 5751, Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests

The Mississippi Department of Education has established the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) as the basic skills exam required for certification. You are required to pass all three sections (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) of the Core basic skills examination within the first 6 months of entering the Foundations of Teaching (FOT) domain at WGU.  The minimum required scores for Mississippi can be found by reviewing the MS Praxis Exam Requirements.

Alternate Basic Skills Options:

 

You may be permitted to use your ACT exam to satisfy the Mississippi basic skills exam requirement. You must have a composite score of 21 or better on the ACT to satisfy the basic skills requirement. To ensure WGU receives your ACT score report, please follow the Submitting SAT/ACT Scores to WGU instructions.


Submitting Scores to WGU
To ensure that WGU receives your scores and can verify your eligibility for DT, you must fax a copy of your official score report to the Assessments Office at 1-801-606-7021 or email a scanned copy to scores@wgu.edu

 

Previous Basic Skills Requirement: The Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) was only accepted for certification in Mississippi for students who applied for licensure by 9/1/2014.
