North Carolina BA Special Education/ Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In North Carolina, this program leads to a Professional Educator License in Elementary Education Grades K-6 and Special Education: General Curriculum K-12.

1. Elementary Education Content Exam

You must pass one of the following to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification.

North Carolina General Curriculum 203 - Mathematics Subtest

-OR- Praxis 7803, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge for Teaching - Mathematics Subtest


2. Special Education Content Exam: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications
You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification. For those who matriculated after 9/2/2011, this exam also meets the WGU Program Requirement.

3. Pedagogy Exam: Foundations of Reading Test for North Carolina (090)

You must pass this exam to be recommended for certification.
