BA Special Education Mild to Moderate Certification and Exam Requirements

 

In North Carolina, this program leads to a Professional Educator License in Special Education: General Curriculum.

 

1) Special Education Content Exam:  Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications. You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification. This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

 

2) General Curriculum  Content Exam:

You must pass one of the following to satisfy the content exam requirement.

North Carolina General Curriculum 203 - Mathematics Subtest

-OR- Praxis 7803, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge for Teaching - Mathematics Subtest (effective until September 2020)

-OR- Praxis 7813, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge for Teaching - Mathematics Subtest (effective beginning September 2019)

 

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requires that applicants for Special Education: General Curriculum licensure pass one of the above exams in addition to the special education content exam. You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification.

 

3) Pedagogy Exam: Foundations of Reading Test for North Carolina (090). You must pass this exam to be recommended for certification.
