North Carolina MS Special Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In North Carolina, WGU's Master of Science in Special Education program leads to an endorsement in Special Education: General Curriculum K-12.

1) Content Exam: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications

You must pass this exam to graduate from the program. You must graduate from the program to be recommended for certification. This exam also meets the WGU Program Requirement.

 

You will then be required to take the following tests at least once during your first year of teaching. You must pass these exams in order to convert the initial Standard Professional License I to the Standard Professional License II: 


                   1) Pearson Foundations of Reading Test for North Carolina (090)
                   2) 
North Carolina General Curriculum 203 - Mathematics Subtest

-OR- Praxis 7803, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge for Teaching - Mathematics Subtest

 

These exams are not required for graduation or recommendation. They must be taken during your first year of teaching in order to convert the initial Standard Professional License I to the Standard Professional License II.
