North Dakota Administrator Certification Application Information and Instructions

Those who complete an out of state approved program for educational leadership like WGU's can apply directly for a North Dakota elementary or secondary principal credential. Follow the steps below to prepare your application packet.

Step 1:  Request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college you have attended. Once your graduation application has been processed by the WGU Records Office you will receive a notification with information on how to order two complimentary copies of your official WGU transcript from the National Student Clearinghouse. You will have the option of selecting electronic or mail delivery. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see the WGU Transcript FAQ article. Do not request a transcript until you have received notice of graduation, so that your graduation date will appear on your transcript. MAT students may request a transcript after completing the teacher preparation portion of their MAT program. Be sure to leave transcripts you elect to have mailed to you in their sealed envelopes.

Step 2: Obtain a letter of recommendation signed by a supervisor or employer who has firsthand knowledge of your professional work, experience, and service.

Step 3: Apply for Your License Online and complete sections A, B, and D, In section B you need to evidence three years of certificated teaching experience at the level  (elementary or secondary) for which you are applying for administrative licensure.  Please note that only ND colleges and universities can provide a letter of verification. For those who complete an out of state approved educational leadership program, the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction will verify that the academic standards for the license requested have been met.

Step 4: Submit in one application packet the application form, transcript, and letter of recommendation to:
