North Dakota Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements
INITIAL LICENSURE STUDENTS ONLY: WGU initial licensure students who want to become certified in North Dakota need to first license in Utah after completing their teacher preparation program. A student can then apply for a reciprocal license in North Dakota after receiving their Utah license. Refer to the following for specific state requirements: general Utah teacher certification requirements and general North Dakota teacher certification requirements.
LICENSE AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS
Early Childhood Education Certification Available: Early Childhood Education Birth-Grade 3
Graduates of a WGU early childhood education teacher preparation program will be eligible for Early Childhood Education Birth-Grade 3 teacher licensure in North Dakota, which will allow them to teach in any multiple subject classroom in that grade range.
Early Childhood Education Exams and Requirements:
1. Content Exam for Utah Certification (required to graduate)**: Choose one of the following:
A. Praxis 5001 Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (OR Praxis 5031 Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects if at least one sub-test is passed on or before 8/31/2014 with all four sub-tests passed on or before 7/1/2015 OR Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge exam if passed prior to September 1, 2012)
B. Praxis 5025 Early Childhood Education
(Praxis 5022 Early Childhood: Content Knowledge can be accepted if passed before 9/1/2015)
2. WGU ECE Program Requirement (required to graduate for students who matriculated on March 1, 2012 or later. See the WGU Program Requirement for the Early Childhood Education program)
You have four options to satisfy the WGU Program Requirement. You may pass any of these four exams:
A. Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
B. Praxis 5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
C. Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
D. Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
** Please note that you must select the Utah State Board of Education as an official score recipient. You must have ordered your USBE background check and have been issued a CACTUS ID before the USBE can record and retain your scores. The USBE won't automatically be included as a score recipient by ETS when you register for your exams. You can find instructions on how to select the USBE as an official score recipient in the Submitting Exam Scores to the Utah State Board of Education article in this handbook. Western Governors University will not submit your score reports to the USBE on your behalf.
