Nebraska has the following general requirements for all applicants for initial teacher certification:
1. DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a Bachelor's degree program.

2. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a teacher education program that is approved to lead to teacher certification in the home state of the program and recommendation for certification from the approved program.

3. BACKGROUND CHECK: Background clearance resulting from completion of the required background check

4. SPECIAL EDUCATION: Nebraska requires a general education Special Education course covering all disabilities for all initial licenses. WGU’s programs do cover this requirement.

5. HUMAN RELATIONS TRAINING: While WGU's coursework is not pre-approved by the Nebraska Department of Education to fulfill this requirement, the required coursework is covered by the WGU Bachelor's teacher preparation programs. Masters students must complete this requirement on their own (either through courses taken for their undergraduate degree or at a Nebraska institution).

6. BASIC SKILLS EXAM: Passing scores on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751).

7. RECENCY REQUIREMENT: Meet the recency of education requirement by applying for certification within five years of completing your teacher preparation program.

8. CONTENT EXAMS: Pass the Praxis content exam.
